Avengers Assemble


CAPTAIN AMERICA

Captain AmericaSteve Rogers was an ordinary man injected with the experimental Super Solider serum during World War II that gave him superior strength and speed and transformed him into the hero called Captain America! After the war was over, Cap was frozen in a block of ice for several decades until being discovered and thawed out by the Avengers. He has been a mainstay of the team for years and its leader for most of his tenure. He is at present an active member of the team and co-leading it alongside the Wasp.


IRON MAN

Iron ManTony Stark is a multimillionaire playboy, CEO of his own company Stark International, and a founding member of the Avengers. After falling victim to a near-fatal accident that lodged a piece of shrapnel in his chest, Stark built a suit of armor while in captivity to save his life and became the hero known as Iron Man. Over the years, Stark has battled against many foes wishing to steal the Iron Man technology, and has also suffered from alcoholism. Two things have remained constant, though – the constant upgrading of his armor, and his membership in the Avengers.


THE WASP

The WaspJanet Van Dyne is a high-profile socialite and one of the founding members of the Avengers. After her father, a world-renowned scientist, was murdered, Janet contacted his colleague, Henry Pym, and vowed to dedicate her life to fighting crime. Through use of the Pym Particles, Janet gained the ability to shrink herself to a miniature size and fire off small bolts of energy, and became the Wasp. Over the years she has been a mainstay of the Avengers and even served as its leader. She is currently co-leading the team with Captain America.


GIANT-MAN

Giant-ManHenry ‘Hank’ Pym has gone by many different aliases in his superhero – and short-lived supervillain – career, but he is perhaps most famous for creating the ‘Pym Particles’, which allow him to alter the mass of his body and gain superhuman strength. Originally Ant-Man when he helped form the Avengers, Pym has also been known as Goliath, the mentally unstable Yellow Jacket, and his present identity, Giant-Man. In addition to being the ex-husband of the Wasp, Pym is also the resident doctor and technological genius of the Avengers.


BLACK WIDOW

Black WidowNatasha Romanoff originally gained fame as a ballerina in the Soviet Union, but later on was recruited into the KGB, where she became the spy known as the Black Widow. Originally an enemy of the Avengers, Natasha came to blows with Iron Man in particular on several occasions, though it was her relationship with Hawkeye that led to her leaving her criminal activities and the Soviets behind. She was an agent of SHIELD and a member of the Champions, as well as serving at times as an Avenger. She is currently a member of the team.


THE VISION

visionCreated by the monstrous robot known as Ultron from the remains of the original, android Human Torch, Vision was originally used as a weapon to destroy the Avengers. Vision ended up betraying his programming and joined the Avengers, and even enjoyed a romance and short-lived marriage with the Scarlet Witch. After a rogue program caused Vision to try and take over the world through its computer systems, he was dismantled and later rebuilt, devoid of some of his experiences but still maintaining his resolve to be a hero.


SCARLET WITCH

Scarlet WitchWanda Maximoff is a mutant with the ability to alter probability fields, and the daughter of the Master of Magnetism himself – Magneto. Though orphaned as an infant and raised by adopted parents, Wanda, as well as her twin brother Pietro, served in their father’s Brotherhood of Evil Mutants as the Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver. Later on, the twins petitioned for membership in the Avengers, and though Quicksilver left for different endeavors, Wanda has been a constant part of the team, where she remains to this day.


BLACK PANTHER

Black PantherWhen his father was murdered, T’Challa succeeded him as King of Wakanda and soon after donned the ceremonial garb of the Black Panther. While possessing no actual superpowers, T’Challa is a skilled fighter and is the pinnacle of physical perfection. After meeting Captain America, T’Challa was offered a place in the Avengers, and he accepted, serving a lengthy time on the team. Eventually he returned to his royal duties in Wakanda and found the country had slipped into a state of turmoil during his absence. He is now splitting his time evenly between the two commitments.


WARBIRD

WarbirdCarol Danvers entered the Air Force at an early age and rapidly rose through the ranks to become one of the leading agents in military intelligence. Following her career as a spy, she was appointed NASA security chief at Cape Canaveral, and it was there that she had an encounter with the alien Kree that augmented her with superhuman strength flight. She joined the Avengers and her powers continue to evolve, even disappearing for a time as a result of a near-fatal confrontation with Rogue. After a time in space, Carol returned to Earth and re-joined the Avengers as Warbird.


THE FALCON

The FalconSam Wilson suffered an emotional breakdown and turned to a life of crime as theFalcon after his parents were murdered. While on an assignment for a minion of the Red Skull, Sam realized the error of his ways and joined Captain America in defeating the Skull. He was subsequently given a better Falcon suit outfitted with jet-powered wings, thanks to the Black Panther, and joined the Avengers. The Falcon is presently an active member of the team, tough he prefers to work solo or partnered with Captain America.


SHE-HULK

She-HulkJennifer Walters is the cousin of Bruce Banner, also known as the Hulk. Jennifer grew up to become a successful lawyer, and after being shot by an enemy of one of her clients, she received a blood transfusion from her cousin. As a result, Jennifer transformed into the super-strong She-Hulk. For a time, she was a solo heroine, and even replaced the Thing in the Fantastic Four. Later on, She-Hulk joined the Avengers and has been a sometimes member of the team. To this day she continues her career as a lawyer, and is presently active as a member of the Avengers.


ANT-MAN

Ant-ManScott Lang was an electronics expert who could not support his family doing repair work, so he turned his talent to burglary. After being arrested and serving a prison sentence, Lang became an employee at Stark International and soon after came into contact with the Pym Particles. He stole the particles and used them to become Ant-Man, setting out to rescue the only doctor who could heal his daughter’s congenital heart condition. He later was accepted into the Avengers, and has served as an on-and-off member of the team since.


JACK OF HEARTS

Jack of HeartsJack Hart is the son of Philip Hart, a brilliant scientist who developed a revolutionary, extremely efficient liquid fuel called ‘Zero Fluid’, and a humanoid alien woman of the Contraxian race. When Jack was still a young man, his father was murdered and Jack was accidentally exposed to the Zero Fluid, granting him the ability to project concussive blasts of ‘Zero Energy’. He soon after fled into space, fearing his out of control abilities would cause too much harm, but was brought back to Earth by a squad of Avengers and extended a membership in the group which he accepted as Jack of Hearts.

Avengers Assemble #1 – SuperNova (3)

The Avengers make their official debut in this limited series as a devastating earthquake tears through Los Angeles. When a small group of Avengers head to the west coast for a recon mission, however, they get more than they bargained for when the all-new Masters of Evil greet them! The Masters of Evil have wrecked havoc on the city of Los Angeles – and have a handful of Avengers as their prisoners! While one team of Avengers are at the mercy of the Masters of Evil, the rest head out to Los Angeles and confront the villains once and for all!
