SANDMAN
William Baker gained superhuman abilities after escaping from prison and hiding out on a beach close to a nuclear test facility. Dubbing himself the Sandman, Baker became a founding and staple member of both the Sinister Six and the Frightful Four. After various altercations with both the Fantastic Four and Spider-Man, William decided to reform his criminal ways. He first became a reserve member of the Avengers and then eventually led his own team of West Coast Avengers.
THE GOBLIN
After learning that his father’s costumed identity of the Green Goblin caused his own death, Harry Osborn wanted nothing more than to lead a normal life. However, when the villainous Hobgoblin threatened his girlfriend Liz Allen, Harry donned the Green Goblin costume to rescue her. He later realized that he could redeem the identity and became a hero named “Goblin”, creating better equipment with the help of Peter Parker and ingesting a safe form of the Goblin formula. The formula was a success though he requires periodic doses to maintain his enhanced strength and healing factor.
THE WASP
Kate Bishop grew up idolizing founding and retired Avengers member Janet Van Dyne. In a desperate attempt to gain superhuman abilities like Janet’s, Kate began regularly abusing MGH. After an overdose of the substance, Kate discovered she had permanently gained Wasp-like abilities including wings, the ability to shrink herself, and the ability to fire bio-electric “stings” from her hands. The experience scared her straight and she checked herself into rehab to kick her addiction. After getting clean, she decided to use her newfound powers to join the Young Avengers as the new Wasp.

Seeking revenge, Bruiser allied herself with Jules and became a member of the Revengers but betrayed them and helped the Exiles defeat Jules. When John offered her a spot on the team, Molly took it because she had nowhere else to go.
SONGBIRD
As a child, Melissa Gold sought to escape life with her abusive, alcoholic father. She ran away from home and got herself involved in the world of crime just like her mother. Taking the name Screaming Mimi, Melissa thought her life was over when her lover Angar the Screamer was murdered. Zemo took her in and remade her as Songbird for his Thunderbolts but she soon discovered she enjoyed being a hero. After being a longtime member of the Thunderbolts and helping turn the team into legitimate heroes, Songbird finally attained membership in the Avengers and served the team well until being whisked away to become an Exile.
WHIPLASH
A child of Soviet Russia, Ivan Vanko possessed a brilliant mind that he inherited from his father. However, the leaders of his country chose to draft Ivan into their military and put him through an experimental process designed to replicate the American super soldier program. They dubbed him Whiplash after the metal coils that were implanted in his wrists and sought to use him as a living weapon. Whiplash later rebelled against his creators and managed to free himself from their control with the help of Silver Sable and her Wild Pack. He worked with the group for a time until finally coming to America to become a vigilante and mercenary on his own.
